We have always played and interpreted First Play Random in the sense that really the very first thing that you do in your turn, must be a random hand card play.
So there is no way to escape this randomness by using any of the special Rule cards that you mention.
I have been searching the Looney Labs faq for a definitive answer on the correct interpretation either way, but I can’t seem to find it.
But either way, even if they would confirm you are right, I am afraid it would be a very invasive fix that would take a lot of work, and with many card interactions possibly leading to other new bugs.
All in all, it just seems too much work and risk, specially since the game was released on BGA over 3 years ago already.

At the same time, the description still says "the first card you play", so maybe @Oxtrosk's interpretation is correct. Furthermore, it could be argued that the "swap plays for draws" card technically meets the condition that "the current rule cards allow you to play only one card", allowing the "first play random" card to be skipped
(I know this discussion is pointless since @wolmot has made the final decision. I just felt like looking into it anyway)
