I play on BGA very frequently with a real life friend (NecioJoe), and we both are paid premium members. Green is my first choice of colors, so I have set my preferences to indicate that. He knows that green is my preference, and he has set his preferences so that green is not in his list at all. Quite frequently when we join a game, he is assigned green and I get some other color which isn't in my list of preferred colors.
Sometimes I get green, sometimes he gets green - even on different instances of the same game.

As I said, he specifically left green off his list so that he wouldn't get it instead of me.

Is there a reason there can't me more color options for games (like Can't Stop)? There are many color options in the preferences, why not have all of them available for all games, this would not solve this potential bug but would make it less likely for this player to run into other players who prefer green.

Same here, I chose four colours and very rarely have the colours I chose even when there isn't another premium player at the table.

I have never yet been assigned one of my preferred colors, which are green, purple, teal, and orange. I have been getting gold repeatedly lately.

Meeplelowda = brown?!? (my choices both now and at the time this game: 2nd black, 4th red)

This happens in most of my 6 Nimmt games. For some reason I usually get my 3rd choice color, even in a game with all non-premium players. I've switched around my preferred colors a few times to see the effect and tbh it makes no sense to me. Wish there was an explainer with the logic behind it, out of curiosity :)

I'm having the same issue. I've had red as my color preference for well over a year and it has worked fine until recently. As an example, I'm playing a game of Castles of Burgundy (Table 205206631) with a real life friend who I know doesn't have red as his color preference (I've played hundreds of BGA games with him) and it assigned him red in our most recent game and gave me black. Also, just kicked off a game of PARKS (Table 206950133) with this same friend (and other friends) and once again I did not get red.

The first line of the log states "The colors of Jest Phulin have been chosen according to their preferences." However, my preferred color is green, and I was assigned blue (my third preference). Green was assigned to a non-premium member, and the other premium member at the table apparently does not have their preferences set to colors supported in Deus.

Several people, including me, reported experiencing this bug with Settlers of Catan. I personally experience this problem EVERY SINGLE GAME. Catan has not even once given me my preferred color, and it nearly always gives me my third choice color. Sometimes someone else at the table get my first choice, and sometimes nobody does. The game always says my color was chosen according to my preferences, but I always get the wrong color.
Catan's developers said they confirmed the bug, but it is not Catan-specific, and they marked that bug a duplicate of this one. Please see en.boardgamearena.com/bug?id=69630 for multiple reports from people experiencing this.

I have my preferences set to blue (then cyan since it's closest) but Catan always ignores it and gives blue to someone else (even non-premium members)

I also have the same bug in Catan. My preferred color is blue and I always get assigned green even it is not my preferred color. There is message in the history that color was chosen according to my preferences when it wasn't.

- Selecting "Red", "Blue" or "Green" will match a wider range of colours as offered by game implementations
(And specifically, "Blue" will match much more closely to Catan's blue)
- We assign preferred colours to players first to the table's host, and then in a random order (previously, we assigned to the host, and then to players in a fixed order)
Please comment with examples if you have further gripes with the system!

It got worse for the Werewolf game. My default is blue and even as the host I cannot get into the blue house.
